Parenting Consultation

Applying expertise in child development, education and counselling to help parents discover solutions that fit their family.

Dion is an educator and school counsellor with over 15 years experience helping children, teens and families thrive in school and at home. She’s also a mom to three children, ages 11 and under, so she understands just how hard parenting can be! As a parenting consultant, she believes all parents are doing the best they can. When parents fall short – which we all do, frequently – it takes strength to ask for help, seek advice, and implement some new strategies.

Dion holds a Bachelor’s of Education in Secondary Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology. She has worked with children from preschool to high school and has a background coaching adult learners. As a parenting consultant, she applies her expertise in child development, education and counselling to help parents discover solutions that fit their family.

Registered Psychologist

Psychological Assessment and Testing

I am Registered Psychologist who earned her Masters of Science in School and Applied Child Psychology from the University of Calgary. My graduate research primarily focused on resiliency, positive youth development, growth mindset, and factors influencing decision-making in interpersonal practice. More recent research interests and initiatives have focused on social skill development and program evaluation for adolescents with ADHD.

Since completing my graduate training, I have worked in specialized clinical, private, and public educational settings where I gained experience providing remedial intervention, consultation, and assessment to individuals, families, and children. Specifically, I have extensive training, supervision, and experience conducting psychological assessments in the areas of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Intellectual Disabilities, Specific Learning Disorders, Giftedness, Anxiety, Depression, Adjustment Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, and Trauma-Related Stress Disorders.

I take a strength-based and collaborative approach to helping an individual and their family understand their unique learning and behavioural profile. I am passionate about helping my clients identify the way they learn best and in turn, provide individually tailored, evidenced-based recommendations. I strive to help students, families, and school personnel teams navigate student’s unique academic challenges.

In addition to my clinical work in the field of psychology, I have also presented at conferences locally, nationally, and internationally.

I live in Sherwood Park and enjoy spontaneous weekends away to the mountains where I can be found either hiking, paddle boarding, skiing, or snowshoeing.

I am currently a third-year student at the University of Alberta, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. In my volunteer role at Onyx Assessments, I assist the team with various administrative tasks. I am eager to deepen my understanding of psychological assessments and their impact on an individual’s life and well-being. After completing my undergraduate degree, I plan to pursue a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and am passionate about focusing my future work on supporting individuals struggling with addiction. My genuine interest in mental health, human behavior, and thought processes has driven my commitment to assisting others facing difficulties. I believe that everyone experiences challenges and successes, and that supportive guidance benefits us all. This belief is the reason I have decided to pursue Psychology as a career—I aim to support individuals through both difficult and positive life experiences. Outside of my academic pursuits, I enjoy reading, spending time with friends and family, exploring new cafés, and my favourite thing of all is expanding my vinyl record collection. Collecting vinyl records is one of my greatest passions, as I find great satisfaction in discovering unique albums and building a collection that reflects my emotions and life experiences through sound!
